Something that is useful in any case is having handy is the list of other VPN endpoints and what type of VPN they are using.ĮdgeRouter does not have to be your main router, especially if the incoming broadband is xDSL, and like you I continue to use the Fritz for Wi-Fi. What you want to do is possible but involves some learning as you go.įrom my own experience I couldn't apply everything all at once and needed to progressively add configuration for each use case. I don't think I'll be able to give step by step instructions. Is having two routers a problem? I'm still going to have one or other do port forwarding, should I leave that on the Fritz or basically pass all my routing requirements over to the EdgeRouter? Seems reasonable as they all have web interfaces. Or how can I tell it to ask the Fritz for those? But does it need to be my main router, handle DHCP and DNS for example. The simple way is just to have the EdgeRouter do my VPN. The plan is for all of my LAN to run through this one switch, the older smaller one will be retired and the FritzBox relocated. The FritzBox is known to have a slow processor and it can't do decent VPN speeds, thus the EdgeRouter.īetween the Fritz and an Ethernet five port hub/switch I have about six or seven LAN cables.Īlong with the EdgeRouter I've bought a new Ethernet 'smart' switch (TP-Link). Obvs its connected to the POTS for my FTTC. Whatever happens I need that for my WiFi, VoIP and DECT. I need a couple of clues / advice as to the best way to set this up and integrate it into my LAN. Finally I got around to buying an EdgeRouter X after folk here suggested it would speed up my VPN connections. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Once our Ubuntu system is done with system updates, run following command on the terminal to download FreeFileSync package file to your system. First of all make sure that your Ubuntu sytem is properly connected to the internet and run system updates so that all packages are on the latest available releases. Installing and Using FreeFileSync on Ubuntu 16.10įor the sake of demonstration, we will be installing this application on Ubuntu 16.10. Grab a cup of tea, we are going to start the installation of FreeFileSync on Ubuntu. The feature list can go on and on, but the above mentioned are most prominent of all. It properly handles files/folders sync process dependencies for both the FAT and NTFS partitions types. It uses "Case Sensitive" mechanism to ensure that complete data is being synchronized. Many utilities of this nature use the concept of file/folder size only, but FreeFileSync uses the concept of File's content size comparison, so in this way any tiny change in source or target directories are properly synced/backed up.You can install it on your local system for regular use, or you can use portable version for temporary use. It comes in both, portal and local installation versions. You can automatically handle batch jobs and it also handles the "Symbolic Links" so you get accurate amount of data backed up.It can copy locked files and detect any conflicts among source and target folders.FreeFileSync uses an intuitive directory tree structure to better get an overall of disk space consumption. It can not only synchronize local disks but its capabilities include the syncing of Network shares as well. This utility uses an "optimal sync sequence" method which prevents disk space related bottlenecks. It has been developed using a very unique "Fail-safe" algorithm which avoid any kind of data corruption during sync process. Here are some of the noteworthy features of this application. FreeFileSync's Salient FeaturesįreeFileSync is not a new application, it has been under the radar of IT professionals for quite a time now and has successfully won the trust of industry professionals. Let's review its important features and then we will get to the part of installing this application on Ubuntu 16.10. It supports almost all modern versions of above mentioned Linux flavors. It is available for: Microsoft (Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista,Windows XP) It has a very long feature list which we will review later in this article, but lets first see the list of supported operating system by this application. It is not a resource hungry application, it consumes very limited amount of system resources and runs efficiently on all kinds of modern day operating system ( Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Linux ). When installed, it keeps syncing your specified source and target directories you can have peace of mind that your important data is continuously being synced. It is a cross platform, free utility which allows users to create backup of important data to local system's disk or any external USB drives. ![]() But what if we do not want to store our confidential data on cloud? well, thankfully FreeFileSync is available. linux.dbus_ interface. We are living in the area of cloud computing where lot of free services are available that let us sync our important data for the sake of backup to the remote cloud storage. 07:09:19,945 - twisted - ERROR - Unhandled Errorįailure: ubuntuone. 07:09:19,945 - twisted - ERROR - Unhandled error in Deferred: ProcVersionSign ature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2ĮxecutablePath: /usr/lib/ ubuntuone- client/ ubuntuone- syncdaemon Main - NOTE - MARK (state: queue: 3 hash: 0). * To judge from my syncdaemon log, nothing is happening: I can accept my work temporarily not being backed up, but this implies it could be corrupted. * The dialog says "Interrupting the program may cause you to lose work", which if true would be pretty awful. * There's no obvious way to see what if anything is happening or how long it will take. * I have not changed any files in my u1 directory for several days, and I have a multi-megabit connection, and my machine's been on for three hours so it's not very reasonable it hasn't finished syncing yet.
